Trytite is an archaic English word meaning to nip, pinch or gall. However, I am not entirely sure if it the word intended by the author, thus the brackets. The word has come up in different indentures also spelled as “Tritite” and may mean treaty.

This indenture [trytite]* made the Tenth daie of
July in the Two and Tweinteth yeare of the rainge of
our soverainge Lord Charles by the grace of god of
England Scotland Ffrance and Ireland kinge defender
of the faith ect Betweene Thomas Goodwyn of Donwood
in the county of Stafford Yoman and Joane his wife on the
first part, ^\[JB ofe of yerd pr]/ John Hulme of Newgrange in the saide county
of Chester Husbondman on the third part witnesseth that
whereas the said Thomas Godwyne by his Indenture of
lease beareing date the five and twentieth day of June
Last past, and made betweene him the said Thomas
Godwyn on the one part and the said John Bond on
the other, for and in consideracon of the some of
ffyftye pound of lawfull english money , unto the
said Thomas by the hand of the said John Bond
well and truely paid and for other considerations
therein expressed did demise lease graunt set and
to farme let unto the said John Bond his executors
administrators and assignes All that his cottage
house or tenment with thapputenances in Tomwood
aforesaid then or lately before that tyme in the x
tenure or occupacon of him the said John Bond
or of his assignes, and allsoe one barne and a back-
side or yeard thereunto belonging, and one those
called the Thursfans one those called the wall
croft, one those called the Banke, and one those called
the over Breech, with the lane thereunto xxx
adjoyneing: To have and to hould the said
cottage house and the said closes lands premises
with their appurtenances unto the said John Bond
his executors administrators and assignes from the
feast day of the Annuciation of the Virgine x
Mary last past before the date of the said In-
denture of lease, for and dureing all the tearme
and tyme of twenty and one yeares from thence
next comeing, and fully to be compleate and ended
for and under the rente convenants and agreements
indenture of lease (relacon being there unto had)
more at large appeareth now this indenture

further witnessesth that as well for and in consideracion
of the said some of ffity poundes to the said Thomas
Godwyn payd, by the said John Bond, and of other
the convenauts in the said indenture of lease xx
mencioned and contayned, and on the part and x
behalfe of the said John Bond to be performed
fand for the further and better assuring and con-
varying of the said cottage landes and premises x
in the said indenture of lease mencioned, to the
said John Bond his executors administrators and
assignes according to the true intent and meaneing
of the said indenture of lease and of the said
parties thereunto, and for further confirmacion
thereof as allsoe for the better enabl-
ing of him the said Thomas to pay
and discharged is [er] debts and somes of money
by him owening to severall persons, and for the
provideing and raiseing of compesent porcions
for his younger children, and for their ad-
vancement and perserment, and for other good
causes and considerations him the said Thomas
heereunto moveing, it is covenanted concluded
and agreed upon by and betweene all the
said parties and the said Thomas Godwyne
for himself his heires executors and ad-
ministrators and every of them doth covernant
promise and agree to and with the said x

and John Bond and every of them severally
and respectively and to and with their and
every of their severall and respective heires
executors and administrators by their present,
that hee the said Thomas Godwyn and Joane his
said wife, at the personal costs and charges of him
the said Thomas, and before the first day of
November next ensueing the date heere of
shall and will levy one fine before his Majesties
justices of this court of comon pleas at West-
minister, with proclamacions thereupon to be had

accordinge to the forme of the statute in that
behalfe made and provided, and according to the
comon courte of levying and recordinge of ffynes
in such cases used, unto the said John Hulme –
George Warburton and Job Hulme, of all those
his messuages cottages lands and tenements mea-
dowes pastures and hereditament with them and
every of their appurtenants set scituate lyeing
and being in Longsdon and Donwood in the saide
county of Stafford, which the said Thomas Godwyn
and John Godwyn his father or the one of them
had or purchased of Poger Ffernihalgh and x
William Ffernihalgh or of one of them, and of the
moity or halfe part of those twoe closes crofts or
pastures with thappertenements in Longsdon afore
said, commonly called or knowne by the name or
names of the Lollynhay and the ould garden,
all whith said messuages cottages landes and premises
now are or lately were in the tenure houlding
or occupacion of the said Thomas Godwyn and
John Bond or the one of them their or one of
their assigneee or assignes and of all and every other
the messuages cottages land tenements and he-
reditaments of him the said Thomas Godwyn in
Longsdon and Donwood or in either of them, and of
the revercion and revercions remainder and re-
mainders of all and singular the said messuages
cottages lands and premises by the names of one
messuage one cottage foure acres of land foure
acres of meadow, and eight acres of pasture
with thappurtenements in Donwood and Longsdon
And it is further covenanted concluded and
agreed upon by and betweene all the said parties
to their presents that the said John Hulme George
Warburton and Job Hulme the [counuses] in the
said ffyne soe to be levyed and their heires, x

or some or one of them and his heires, from and
immediately after the tyme of the knowledging and
levyings of the same ffyne and for ever afterwarde
shall stand and be seized by vertue and force of
the said fyne, of and in all the said messuages
cottages land tenements hereditaments and
premises and every part and parcell thereof, with
their and every of their appurtenant, and
that the said fyne shalle and inure and shalle
adjudged esteemed and taken to be and inure to the
serverall uses intents and purpose hereafter in their
presents contayned expressed mencioned limited and
declared and to or for noe other use intente or
purpose whatsoever. That is to say of and in
all that cottage house or tenement in Donwood
aforesaid and one barne and backside or yeard their
unto belonging, and one those called the Thurstan
one those called the wall croft, one those called the
banke and one those called the overbreech with
the lane thereunto adjoyneing and now or late
tenure or, occupacion of the said John Bond or of
his assignes (and whith the said John Bond hath
and houldeth by vertue of the demise of the said
Thomas as aforesdaid) to the use and behoofe of
the said John Bond his executors administrators and
assignes, for and dureing all the tearme and tyme
of one and twenty yeares, under such covenants
conditions and provisoes as in the said indenture
of lease are mencioned and expressed, and according
to the true intent and meaneing of the said x
indenture, and after the end and expiraton of the
said lease and tearme of yeares therein mencioned
then to the use and behoofe of the said Thomas
Godwyn his heires and assignes forever and
of and in all the said messuage house of him the
said Thomas, and of and in the moity or halfe
part of those twoe closes crofts or pastures in

Longsdon aforesaide, and all and every other the
messuages cottages lands tenements and here-
ditaments of him the said Thomas in Longsdon x
and Domwood or in either of them, (other then
then the said cottage and lands demised to
the said John Bond as aforesaid) to the use and
befoofe of the said Thomas Godwyn heires x
and assigne for ever In wittnesse whereof
to one part of these indentures remaineinge-
